VMAs 2020: 5 CELEBRITIES THAT NAILED THE FASHION GAME AND 5 WHO FAILED.

MTV Video music awards are famous for their celebration of amazing music videos by various talented artists. Apart from music, there is also a lot of hype around the fashion looks rolled out by these celebrities. VMAs 2020 was vastly different from its usual fanfare due to coronavirus restrictions. This year focused on outdoor performances with limited to no audience. However, this didn’t stop the artists from bringing their A game to the virtual red carpet. Lets take a look at 5 celebrities that wowed the fans with their impeccable fashion and 5 who didn’t.

THE BEST:

  1. Lady Gaga:

The queen of experimental fashion herself! Lady gaga rarely disappoints with her very extra fashion looks and the VMAs this year were no exception. Mama monster looked stunning in a futuristic ensemble that was inspired by MTV’s moon person. She looked radiant in a silver anorak dress by Area, a clear helmet by Murscarella (which also gave a nudge to the importance of wearing a mask during these troubling times) and sky-high platform boots from Pleasers.

2.  Miley Cyrus:

Miley Cyrus is known for her high-risk fashion looks and it was no different on the VMAs red carpet. The wrecking ball singer wreaked into her fan’s hearts with a stunning naked dress from Mugler. She paired this beauty of a dress with matching gloves, a gold chain and black strappy heels.

3. Bella Hadid:

The leggy supermodel ran into her ex the weekend at the VMA and looked heart-stoppingly chic while doing so. Bella opted for a sheer cut out bodysuit from Nensi Dojaka. She paired this itsy bitsy top with some tailored black pants, sequined sandals and silver hoop earrings

4. Joey King:

For her red carpet look, the kissing booth actress opted for a very feminine floral printed dress by Versace. She completed the look with some gold chains that featured the brand’s iconic Medusa logo and the most beautiful pair of red shoes that I have seen.

5. Sofia Carson:

The descendants’ actress dazzled in a red dress from Giambattista Valli during her red carpet appearance. The gown was one-shouldered with a peplum waist. She paired the fire hot red dress with Vhernier jewellery and Jimmy Choo shoes

THE WORST:

  1. Nicole Richie:

Nicole Richie showed up at the VMAs red carpet in a taffeta mini dress that was a weird shade of green. Not just the colour but the silhouette of her dress didn’t win many fan’s hearts. She completed her look with emerald green pointy headpiece and some yellow? Strappy heels. The whole look which was allegedly inspired by her album which is about organic vegetables seemed confused. Moreover, her makeup and accessories didn’t compliment the dress. A thumbs down for this one.

2. Dababy:

While VMAs is known for its casual vibe where celebs experiment with their styles, literally forgetting to wear a few items of clothing is a big no-no. This was exactly the case with the rapper Dababy who showed up at the red carpet sans shirt. While he was wearing a dazzling amount of diamonds with a fur jacket and shorts (boxers? ) his overall look failed to impress the fashion police.

3. Machine Gun Kelly:

While I am one of those people who think there is nothing like too much pink but I give MGK’s VMAs look a hard pass. This shade of neon pink is too irritating and the maroon shoes that he chose to wear with his look clash with the entire outfit and what’s up with the pearl choker thing that is going on? Guess we will never know

4. The Weeknd:

The Weeknd, who is undoubtedly one of my favorite artists and someone who slays red carpet looks on the daily bases failed this time around. He showed up with a bloody face (Don’t worry, its just makeup) and an 80’s style red suit that many called boring. The red jacket along with leather gloves and black and white shoes didn’t compliment the talented singer at all!

5. CNCO:

The super talented Latin American boyband has been slaying music record left to right and centre. However, when it came to their red carpet look, I was left underwhelmed. The casual look of jeans, hoodies and sneakers would have been just fine for a meet and greet with the fans but was understated for a red carpet as cool as the VMAs. They could have done a lot better!
